Darryl Lynn Hughley, better known as DL Hughley rose from challenging beginnings to become a well-known and influential comedian and actor. The southern California native was born in the south-central area and became a local gang member in his youth. He later left the gang, earned his GED and got a job as a telemarketer where he met the woman who would become his wife. She encouraged him to try comedy as a career. His hard work eventually led to his appointment as the first host of the BET show “Comic View.” Hughley comedy style combines activism with laughter and he often discusses topics of racial inequality and social injustice. Hughley has appeared in the ABC show The Hughleys, Inspector Gadget and The Original Kings of Comedy.
